Aaron Holland from Dublin and plays out of Joey’s Snooker Club, Harmonstown Dublin has won the Battle of Clontarf Snooker Championship for the second time at Joey’s recently after a great display of snooker by this young up and coming star of the future.

On his way to the final Aaron played solid snooker against Niall Pollitt (Dublin) with a number of 20+ breaks to win 2-0 in the last 32, in the last 16 Peter McDermott (Kildare) tried to keep in touch with Aaron but again he was too strong for Peter and won 2-0.  The Quarters saw Aaron up against John Seery (Kildare) and with a solid performance knocking in breaks of 33 & 80 saw off John for a place in the semis 2 frames to nil.

Sean Reynolds from the Joey’s club had chances to take both frames against Aaron but it was not to be and Aaron went through with a 2 nil win into the final.

At the other end of the draw we saw another former winner Darragh Cusack advance in similar style as Aaron with good 2 nil wins over Phil Kennedy (Dublin),Last 32, Matthew Graham (Dublin) Last 16 and Darragh met the 2017 winner in John O’Boyle in the Quarters but played well to win 2 nil with a number of 20+ breaks.  In the semis Darragh had a good match against Andrew Doherty (Dublin) who is playing on the National circuit, again Darragh played well and took the match 2-0 to meet Aaron in the final

Aaron started well in frame 1 but Darragh came back well to the colours but Aaron cleared to the pink to take it.  Darragh had a few chances in the second but Aaron compiled a good 63 break to seal the match and take the Battle of Clontarf Title for the second time in 5 years.

Congratulations to Aaron on his win and to Darragh for a fine performance.  This years event had a €500 sponsor and it was great to see a good turnout, however due to a number of changes with the football final and Electric Picnic events we could have doubled the number of players.  We hope to secure a weekend in October 2019 to hold our 6th event and increase the number of players.

Thanks to Dennis McEntyre and Clontarf Tourism for all his support and sponsorship for this event.

Well done to all our players who entered and support the event, we really appreciate your participation.

Thanks to Joey’s for providing excellent facilities as always towards the Battle of Clontarf and to all the staff and Derek Fagan for their support.

Thanks to Alison McDonnell of Dublin Trophies for her fantastic prizes for the event at cost and Alison has been providing the prizes for the last 5 years of this prestigious event that is now part of our Annual Calendar.

Thanks to all the lady players from RILSA who continue to support this event each year
