After a long days competition at Joey’s Dublin recently, Aidan Pollitt won the Battle of Clontarf Plate event in a tight battle against Christine Carr.  Aidan was runner-up in this event in 2017 and is delighted to go one better this time round and win the competition, while it was Christine’s first final at the Battle of Clontarf events now in its 5th year.

In the last 16, Aidan played well against Leon Costello who won the event in 2017 in a replay of last years final, only for Aidan to win their match 2-0.  Aidan went on to win 2-0 against Stephen Keane in the Quarters to meet John O’Boyle in the Semis.  John had won the main event in 2017, so it was going to be a difficult match for Aidan, however with the match level at 1-1 it was Aidan who kept in touch with John all the way through the frame and took on a long blue to pot and leave himself on a simple pink to the centre pocket to seal the match and advance once again into the plate final.

The other end of the draw saw Christine Carr play some great snooker ousting Declan Tuohy in the Quarters 2 frames to nil and came up against the inform Peter McDermott in the semis but again kept in touch winning the first frame on a respot black. Christine went on to win the next well sending her into the final against Aidan.

The final started well for Aidain going into an early lead taking frame 1, however Christine responded well to level the match at 1-1.  Frame 3 was close all the way and was tense for both players as it came down to the colours in which Aidan cleared to the pink to take the title of Battle of Clontarf Plate Champion 2018.

Congratulations to Aidan on his win and indeed to Christine on her fine performance.

Thanks to Dennis of Clontarf Tourism for his kind sponsorship and support and thanks to Derek Fagan and staff of Joey’s for all their help towards our events during the season.

Well done to all the players for their participation and we look forward to 2019 when we will be hosting the 6th Battle of Clontarf at Joey’s Dublin
