The 2019 National 6 Red Championship got underway at the CYMS Snooker Club, Newbridge recently.  The event had a good entry, with representation from 6 counties, Dublin, Kildare, Carlow, Laois, Offaly and Kilkenny.

Annette Newman from Carlow took her 3rd National Title in style this season by adding the 6 Red to her name.  Annette contested every final since its inception back in 2015, just missing out each time in closely contested matches, however it was her time to shine as she played great throughout but not without the odd scare as the standard of play was very good from all of the players.

In the Quarters, Annette had to play well against Valerie Maloney from Offaly, who had a chance to level the match in frame 2 on a black ball but Annette potted it to move into the semis.  In the other Quarterfinal in her half of the draw, we saw Emirjeta Doda from Dublin who is the current National Under 21 Champion, play good snooker to oust the current National Intermediate Champion, Carrie Randle by 2 frames to 1 for a semi final meeting with Annette.

The bottom half of the draw saw the Current holder of the 6 Red title, Michelle French from Kildare, go out to Megan Randle from Kilkenny in a close Match, 2 frames to nil.  Tina Keogh from Laois was in fine form against the youngster, Roisin Beale from Kildare to see her through to meet Megan in the semis by a 2 nil scoreline.

Annette started well taking frame 1 against Emirjeta, however Emirjeta came back to level this semi final match 1-1, frame 3 saw Emirjeta get in with a chance to score but once she let Annette in, it was Annette who took full advantage and scored well to take the match 2-1 to reach the final.

Megan took Tina all the way to black ball finishes in their semi final match, the first frame Megan had good chances to take the black but Tina potted a difficult black to go 1 up, in frame 2, it was much the same and again Tina took on a difficult black to win and reach her first major final for a number of years.

In the final Annette took frame 1 on the pink in this best of 5 and again needed both pink and black in frame 2 which she potted to go 2 frames up.  Frame 3 was close for a while but Annette found another gear to clear up in the colours to close out the frame and win the RILSA National 6 Red Championship 2019.

Congratulations to Annette on her win and indeed to Tina on a great performance.  Thanks and well done to all our players who supported the event.

Annette now sits in number 1 spot with a good lead but with 5 ranking events yet to be played anything can happen.  Tina is holding number 2 spot which is a great result for her and Emirjeta moves into 3rd place closely followed in 4th place by Michelle French which is her highest ranking with RILSA to date.

5th spot belongs to Christine Carr with Valerie Maloney in 6th.  Roisin Beale is holding 7th place with Cathy Dunne completing the top 8th on the RILSA Provisional Rankings to date.

Also into the top 16 for the first time is Carrie Randle holding 11th spot as the season heats up.

A big thank you to Jim Carrick of the CYMS Club in Newbridge for his support towards RILSA and our promotions for female cue sports.  The club is a credit to the guy’s and we look forward to visiting the club again during the season.
