Annette Newman from Carlow retained her number 1 ranking on the RILSA National List at the end of the season for the 4th season in a row and in doing so creates another record. Annette’s dedication and consistency to the sport shows on her end of season point tally. After reaching 4 semi finals, 3 R/Up places and a win on the national RILSA Tour this season, makes for another great season with RILSA.
Annette’s record will be difficult to break but it is possible with the players we have along with a number of young players showing great promise for the future. Jennifer Earle from Dublin finished 11th spot after her first season with RILSA, she hopes to keep within the top 16 next season and can certainly make the top 8 if she put’s in the practice.
Louise Jordan from Meath showed great promise on her first season back with RILSA after many years away from the sport. Her 2 wins and 2 semi final along with a R/Up spot brought her right into contention for number 1 but finished a credible 3rd place. Christine Carr from Kildare was 5th last season and finished 2nd this time, yet another great season for her and her dedication to the events during the Tour. Valerie Maloney from Offaly who just held 16th place last time finished 5th place her highest ranking to date. Cathy Dunne from Dublin held 4th spot this time round after a great season. The former number 2 would have made a great fight for top spot but for a few close matches that could have gone her way. Current National Champion Paula Judge is holding onto 6th spot after been number 4 last season again Paula had a few set backs against Louise Jordan that would have kept her in the top 4 but its all down to how you perform at these events.
Tina Keogh from Laois and Margaret Browne from Meath had a good season overall keeping their 7th and 8th spots from last season respectively.
12 players went out of the top 32 at the end of the season with two newcomers and 10 others making it through to the top 32. Players making it into the top 16 were, Megan Randle (Kilkenny) 50th to 14th place, Suzanne Randle (Kilkenny) 43rd to 15th spot and young Roisin Beale (Kildare) 17th – 16th.
Notable players moving down the rankings were former National Champion, Sandra Bryan (Wexford) 3rd to 27th place, Grace Byrne (Carlow) 6th to 30th place.
The 2019-2020 Season which starts with the 2019 National Championship will see many new changes to the ranking point system and various qualifications for future events which we hope will add to the challenge and excitement during the coming season as our players compete to win and set new records along the way.
We look forward to 2019 -2020 season and wish everyone a happy and enjoyable snooker season with RILSA.
