Annette Newman from Carlow, won the Kildare Open Billiards National Ranking 4 at the RILSA academy in Sharkx Newbridge recently. Annette continues her 100% record in women’s billiards here in Ireland, after winning the inaugural National Women’s Billiards Championship in December 2015, Annette has won every ranking event to date along with retaining the Championship in December 2016. Annette now retains her number 1 spot on the National Billiards Rankings for her 2nd season.
Annette now looks forward to the Championship in November 2017, where she has a chance of making it 3 in a row.
Christine Carr from Kildare, takes over number 2 spot on the National billiards rankings after her runner-up place recently to Annette. Christine has improved immensely over the past two seasons in women’s billiards. In the round robin timed event at Sharkx recently, Christine took Annette by 5 points for the first time but Annette scored great points against Roisin and Valerie in their matches to run clear on points.
Our young players, such as Roisin Beale (Kildare) has improved greatly and now finishes the ranking season in 5th place while last years Championship runner-up Valerie Maloney (Offaly) holds 4th place with Tina Keogh (Laois) only 5 merit points ahead of Valerie in 3rd spot.
Congratulations to Annette on her fantastic success in women’s billiards and has certainly set the bar for those following in her foot steps. Well done to Christine on her fine performance and to all the players who played and supported women’s billiards during the 2017 season.
The 2017 Championship will be held in November and RILSA is introducing an Intermediate Billiards Championship this year to encourage more women and girls into the sport. A junior Championship is also on the cards for the near future, so onwards and upwards as they say.
Thanks to Paul & Bernie and staff of Sharkx for their fantastic support towards women’s cue sports and providing first class facilities to our players in RILSA.
