Annette Newman from Carlow took the 5th National Ladies Billiards Ranking title at Sharkx Newbridge recently with convincing wins over Stephanie Morrison (Carlow) 51-26, Valerie Maloney (Offaly) 71-41 and Christine Carr (Kildare) 78-30 in this timed event.  Annette now secures her number 1 spot for the 3rd season in a row in women’s billiards here in Ireland, a fantastic achievement for her.

This is Annette’s 4th win out of 5 this season and it places her well going into the National Billiards Championship later in the year as she is favourite to make it 4 National Titles in a row.

However our other players will certainly have their say in the Championship as they close in on Annette with some great displays of billiards during the season so far.

Valerie Maloney has much improved making it two runner up places in National Billiards Rankings and holds number 1 spot in the Intermediate National Rankings to date and is on course to finish first.  Valerie showed that she can compete with the best as she was just pipped by the number 2, Christine Carr by 4 points in Newbridge and won her match against Stephanie Morrison with an 11 point overall win to give her runner up spot.  Valerie started in 2016 with a 6th place ranking to improve to 4th in 2017 and now finishes 3rd in Ireland for 2018, great improvement all round for Valerie.

Christine Carr retains her number 2 spot on the National Rankings after a strong season in women’s billiards and certainly is difficult to beat when in form.  Young Roisin Beale takes 4th spot on the National Rankings which shows her improvement in the sport while newcomer Stephanie Morrison is fast improving as the results show over the season.

The ladies have received new polo shirts with logo to identify our women’s billiards section as we continue our promotions in this area.

Congratulations to Annette on her win and holding number 1 for another season and to Valerie on her fine performance.  Thanks to all our players for their support and we wish everyone the best for the Championship later in the year.

The Intermediate Billiards still have a few Rankings to complete and we will keep be reporting on these as they happen during the coming weeks and months.

Thanks to Bernie & Paul of Sharkx for all their help and support as always.
