Annette Newman from Carlow wins her first National Snooker Championship title at Joey’s Snooker Club Dublin recently, beating the current Champion Sandra Bryan in a very close final. Annette reached the final without dropping a frame, beating Jessica Kazimba (Dublin) last 16, Tina Keogh (Laois) Quarters and Emirjeta Doda (Dublin) Semis. While Sandra Bryan (Wexford) in her half of the draw, saw off Robyn Delaney (Dublin) Last 16, Englentina Doda (Dublin) Quarters, Margaret Browne (Meath) Semis also without dropping a frame.
With the final now set between these two players, who have dominated the ladies Snooker rankings all season, it was going to be close. Annette started well going ahead in the first and leaving Sandra wanting snookers on the blue, Sandra had a few chances that did not materialise and Annette closed out the frame potting blue and pink. Frame 2 was a close affair going down to the pink, which Sandra potted to level the match. Sandra started well in the final frame but Annette came back strong to go ahead on the colours, it was nip and tuck with both players playing some great safety, however Annette potted blue to pink to win the frame and match to become Irish National Ladies Snooker Champion 2015 and starts the new season ahead as the Irish number 1 on the rankings closely followed by Sandra in number 2 spot.
Congratulations to Annette on a fantastic win and well deserved after all the years of play and support for ladies snooker here in Ireland and congratulations to Sandra on a fine performance and we appreciate her support towards the ladies game.
Margaret Browne and Emirjeta Doda have been consistent all season and make up the top 4 spots on the rankings. Other players improving all the time and again consistent with their snooker are Christine Carr, Valerie Maloney, Tina Keogh and Laura Regan all now in the top 8.
In the Intermediate Plate final, Laura Regan (Tipperary) and newcomer Laura Alves (Dublin) had a good match with both players playing well, however Laura Alves was the stronger on the day and came out the winner 2 frames to nil. Congratulations to Laura Alves on her win and to Laura Regan for a great performance. RILSA would like to welcome all our newcomers, Laura Alves, Jeong Min Park, Sarah Wynne who all showed promise on the day and we wish them well in the future as we do to all our players who supported our events this season.
RILSA have now reached the 250 membership mark and we will go from strength to strength over the coming months and years ahead as our planned programme is ahead of schedule.
