Annette Newman continues her unbeaten reign in women’s Billiards here in Ireland when she won the Sharkx Open Billiards Ranking Event 1 recently at the RILSA Academy in Newbridge.
In this timed round robin event at Sharkx, Annette had a good win over Valerie Maloney 85-48 and a 98-32 win over Roisin Beale in their match. Christine Carr was in form on the evening with wins over Roisin Beale 70-31 but a close encounter with Valerie Maloney who was ahead all the way with only 5 minutes remaining, Christine had a few good scoring visits to the table to win 70-58.
Valerie proved why she is Irish number 3 as she is improving each event and was unlucky on the evening not to double her scoring with a number of very close misses. Like Valerie, Roisin continues her progress with scores building at each tournament, this 12 year old will be one to watch in the future.
It was down to the match between Annette & Christine to see who would take the first Billiards Ranking of the season. Annette got off to a good start with some good scoring and this put the pressure on Christine, with 10 minutes remaining, Annette moved ahead with a comfortable win 90-47 to take the title and continue her unbeaten spell in women’s Billiards.
Roisin played well against Valerie in their match to come through with a win 53-35.
With all the players improving in the sport, it’s all down to the night in these timed events for these players as their scoring is getting better all the time.
These four players are the lead players in Irish women’s Billiards and are setting the standard going forward. We in RILSA are delighted with their support and that they enjoy it and will continue to participate for many years to come.
We hope to see more of our members take up women’s billiards during the season.
Congratulations to Annette on her win and to Christine on her fine performance and thanks to all the girls for their participation. Our next Billiards Ranking will be held on Thursday 29th March next at the RILSA Academy in Newbridge.
Thanks to Bernie & Paul of Sharkx for providing excellent facilities and support women’s cue sports.
