Cathy Dunne from Dublin took the RILSA Ladies Dublin Open at D’Arcy McGees Spawell without dropping a frame throughout.
In the first round matches we saw Donna Dunne (Daughter of Cathy) from Dublin back to the sport after a number of years away and got stuck in with a 2 nil win over Stephanie Morrison from Carlow. Louise Jordan from Meath was back to form with a 2 nil win over Joanna Ward from Kildare. Christine Carr from Kildare had a good 2 nil win over Jennifer Earle from Dublin to complete the quarter final line up.
Current number 1 Annette Newman from Carlow had to dig deep after Donna Dunne took the first frame clearing up from the blue to go 1 frame up in this best of 3 match, however Annette showed her experience levelling the match at 1-1 and continued her form in frame 3 to take the win 2-1.
Louise Jordan was in great form against Tina Keogh from Offaly and took the match 2 nil in 40 minutes to meet Annette in the semis. Claire Mill from Dublin was pitted against Margaret Browne from Meath and had to play well against Margaret to take the first frame with Margaret levelling at 1-1 the last frame was nip and tuck for a while but Claire closed out on the colours to take her into the semis.
Christine Carr had a few chances against the current number 2 Cathy Dunne but was unable to capitalise and Cathy ran out the winner with a number of 20+ breaks for a place in the semis.
Cathy continued her form against Claire playing good snooker to finish on a 2 nil score line and a place in the final, while on the other table the match with Annette and Louise was locked at 1-1 going down to the colours which Louise picked off to take the win and a place in the final.
In the final Cathy was in good form and with a number of 20+ breaks again secured a 2 nil win over Louise to take the title of RILSA Ladies Dublin Open Champion 2020.
Congratulations to Cathy on her win and to Louise on a fine performance. Well done to all the players for their participation and support. Thanks to Dave Earle for refereeing the final and throughout the day.
Thanks to Richie and staff of D’Arcy McGees Spawell for their support and providing excellent facilities on the day. A report on our Intermediate Ranking 4 will follow on this site soon.
We are delighted to see Donna Dunne back on the circuit and we hope she will continue to enter events during the year.
On the National Rankings we see Annette Newman secure her number 1 spot for the 5th season in a row a new record for female cue sports in Ireland while Cathy Dunne is now firmly in 2nd spot but will have to play in the 5th and final ranking event of the season to be sure of her place. Christine Carr moves up from 5th to 3rd while Margaret Browne is up from 6th to 5th, Tina Keogh is up from 8th to 7th and Claire Mill moves into the top 16 for the first time at 12th spot and could make the top if she was to do well in our last ranking in March.
Stephanie Morrison is also into the top 16 for the first time in 13th spot and is capable of making a top 10 place by the end of the season. Donna Dunne is now up to 58th place and is capable of a top 32 spot after March. Joanna Ward is up from 10th to 9th and can make the top 8 also in contention of holding a top 8 spot after her place in the final is Louise Jordan. So a lot to play for next month.
