Christine Carr from Sharkx Newbridge won the Inaugural Kildare Women’s County Snooker Championship at the RILSA Academy @ Sharkx Newbridge in a very close contested final against Rachel Bradley from St Marks in Newbridge.  With a good turnout of 14 players for Kildare at the first event, it shows that with time, patience and encouragement women and girls will come out to play the sport.

On her way to the final Christine had wins over Lucinda Monaghan in the quarters and Grace Brennan in the semis while in the other half of the draw, Rachel had wins over Naomi Mitchell in the quarters and Katelyn O’Reilly in the semis to meet Christine in the final.

The final frame saw Rachel go ahead by 12 points with Christine overtaking by 19 points after a bout of safety play, Rachel came back to level the frame score at 30/30 with blue, pink and black on the table, Christine potted a great long blue and had a good chance on the pink but missed leaving Rachel a chance which she took to take it down to the black.  Rachel had a long difficult black to take on with her tight to the top cushion but was unfortunate to miss and let Christine in to win on the black.

Congratulations to Christine on her win and also to Rachel on her fine performance throughout.  Well done to all the players who supported this inaugural Championship and in doing so made History once again for RILSA in their promotions for women’s cue sports here in Ireland.

Well done to Grace and Katelyn on reaching their first ever semi final in snooker competition.

Thanks to all those who came along and supported the players on the day and a big thank you to Bernie and Paul of Sharkx for once again providing excellent facilities for our events.
