The Republic of Ireland Ladies Snooker Association’s 4th Intermediate Ranking event of the season was held at Joey’s Dublin recently.
Christine Carr from Kildare won the title against first time Intermediate ranking finalist, 11-year-old Grace Byrne from Carlow in a great final. Even though Christine won 2 frames to nil it was a much closer affair than the score suggests.
Christine has dominated the Intermediate events since 2015 with 5 ranking title wins and 4 runner-up spots to her name so far. Her win at Joey’s now guarantees her the number 1 ranked Intermediate player in Ireland for the season with two events remaining as her point tally of 7700 is way ahead of her next rival on the National Ranking List young Grace Byrne on 5600.
Other top Intermediate players in Emirjeta Doda from Dublin, Tina Keogh from Laois, Susan Hanlon from Dublin. Valerie Maloney from Offaly and Rachel Bradley from Kildare are still in the mix for a number 2 spot as the season nears its end in March. All of whom are very capable of a number 2 spot.
The Intermediate rankings will also be used to select players for the National Championship in May along with the International in August so very important events for all our players.
Christine had to pull out all the stops to take Emirjeta in their semi final place as she was in good form as she had a good win over Rosie Young from Laois in the quarters 2-1 to meet Christine. The other semi final between Tina Keogh from Laois and Grace Byrne from Carlow saw the match go down to the final frame and black ball in which Grace potted to send her into her first National Intermediate ranking final against Christine.
Congratulations to Christine on her win and to Grace on her fine performance throughout. Thanks to all the ladies for their participation and thanks to Dave Seales for refereeing the final and Annette Newman for making the score. Thanks to Derek Fagan and staff of Joey’s for their continued support towards women’s cue sports.
