Northern Ireland Ladies Snooker was in decline for many years but with the rise in pool players and some who played snooker in the past have got together to organise a snooker tour.

Chucky Preston has been to the forefront of organising this event along with a number of players in Mary Cunningham, Avril Preston just to mention a few.

We in RILSA are delighted to see females back playing snooker in the North again where many greats of the past had success in the sport such as Karen Corr, Cathy Gallagher, Aileen McCann and it was great to see Cathy Pegg back on the scene another great player from the past.

This new group of players are set on developing female cue sports in Northern Ireland and we salute them and are here to support and encourage them into the future.

With an entry of 12 players for their first event and hopefully more to follow in the months ahead we saw Chucky Preston take on the veteran Cathy Pegg in the final after a great days snooker at the 147 Club.

In the semis Cathy Pegg won 2 -1 against Alex Babb and Chucky Preston won 2-0 against Mary Cunningham.

The final was a close affair with both players level at 1-1 in this best of 3 match but it was Chucky who came through taking the 3rd frame against Cathy to take the title.  Congratulations to Chucky on her win and well done to Cathy on a great performance.  Highest break was a 47 by Chucky Preston.  Well done to all the players for making this first event a great success.

In the plate competition Avril Preston got the better of Debra Murphy to win.

A special thanks to the sponsors Car Repairs NI and Bodyshop, Spit’nink Tatoo Studio and the 147 Club for providing fantastic facilities
