World Snooker Coach, Dan Carroll was invited by the Chairman Chris La Cumbre and committee of Portarlington snooker club to give a days coaching recently to the ever increasing junior membership at the club, also attending the coaching day was the clubs newest lady members.  The day started with Dan going over the technique and alignment exercises and then it was down to practice routines and some psychology.

Portarlington Group 2014

I was very impressed with the standard of these young players and since last time I was there, I have seen great improvement.  The proof is that these lads are now beginning to make their mark on the Stars Academy circuit and climbing the new rankings set up this season.  Jamie Maloney, Robbie Keogh and Joe La Cumbre are currently part of the Stars Academy Ireland Scholarship and they are doing extremely well.

The ladies are doing very well indeed and the interest is fantastic.  These women bring a new dimension to the club and add to its great success as everyone has welcomed ladies snooker in this very well run and organised club.  Three ladies, Veronica Harvey, Valerie Maloney and Tina Keogh from the club have been selected to represent Ireland in the International Ladies Snooker Championship in Dublin 2015, a great boost to the club .  Thanks to everyone that attended the coaching day and I look forward to visiting the club again soon.  Thanks to Chris and the committee for the invite, it was an absolute pleasure.
