The Griffith Tour 5 the Plate took place in Joey’s Snooker Club in Dublin on Saturday 28th June. Dan Carroll played good snooker to come back from a 42 lead by Simon Scott in the semis to take frame 1 and raced ahead in the second, only to be closed in by Simon to bring it to a black ball finish. Dan potted a long black for a place in the final. Dave Seales beat the number 2 Ronan Deegan 2 frames to 1 in a very close encounter during their semi final match to meet Dan in the Final. In the final Dave started well in frame 1 only needing brown and blue to leave Dan needing snookers. Dave potted brown and missed the blue, which Dan potted and cleared up to take frame 1. Frame 2 was very much a safety game most of the way, but Dan was the stronger on the day and won 2 nil to give him the title and 120 points clear of Ronan Deegan on the tour rankings. It will be difficult to catch him now with only two events remaining. However the next 6 ranked players are still in with a chance of making the top 4, where the big money prize is at stake, so it will all come down to the next events. Well done to Annette Newman on winning the Plate competition beating Gary Seales 2-1 in the Final. Thanks to everyone for taking part and thanks to Derek Fagan, Keith and staff of Joeys for their support and providing excellent playing conditions on the day. Our next event is on in the Ivy Rooms Carlow on Saturday 19th July 2014.
