Ronan Deegan kept up his winning ways by taking the Griffith Cup at Joey’s recently beating Larry O’Dea 2 nil in the final. This is Ronan’s 3rd Tour event win of the season and puts him back on the number 1 spot on the Tour Rankings with 450 points followed closely in 2nd place by Gary Seales with 420. Dave Seales is in 3rd place with 390 and 4th place is Annette Newman with 360.
The Tour is very successful with a fantastic prize fund totalling €4,000 over the season, with prize money at each of the 8 events and top 4 on both the Tour and Plate rankings up for grabs. The Tour Championship has the highest prize fund each season.
In the Quarter finals, Gary Seales had a very close encounter with Robert Rogers going all the way to a black ball in the final frame, which Gary potted to send him into the semis. Larry O’Dea beat Declan Tuohy taking the match 2 nil but Declan came close in the first taking it to a black ball. In the other half of the draw Ronan Deegan saw off Leon Costello 2 nil with breaks of 22 and 34, Annette Newman was in great form against Dave Seales taking the match 2 nil to meet Ronan in the semis.
Larry and Gary’s semi final was very close indeed with the match levelled at 1-1 it went down to a black ball finish in which Larry potted to send him into his second Tour final this season.
Ronan and Annett’s match was again a close encounter but Ronan came out the winner by 2 frames to nil to meet Larry in the final.
In the final Ronan stepped it up a notch and with breaks of 26, 27 and 49 closed out the match and won 2 nil. Congratulations to Ronan on his win and to Larry for a fine performance.
