Dan Carroll (Stars Academy Ireland and RILSA Chairman) and Annette Newman (Stars Academy Ireland and RILSA Treasurer) visited Colaiste Chluan Meala, Clonmel Co Tipperary recently and were very impressed with the progress to date since the School received one snooker table only to be followed a year later with the installation of a second table, just shows the growing interest among the students in the sport since its introduction to the School a few years ago. The School was the first to take the Under 16 National Schools & College Championships in 2014, with Shane Landers winning the event for them.
Leona O’Connor the National School/College coordinator and Republic of Ireland Ladies Snooker Association Secretary, welcomed both Dan and Annette to the School and gave an account of the progress so far. The School is very much in favour of promoting the sport of snooker at all levels and has arranged a league for both boys and girls. With the allocation of days for each group, means that everyone has table time during the School week.
We are delighted that snooker has a fantastic following at the School and its numbers are growing each year. Leona has set up a School Snooker Club for the students and is very much on hand with all the organising. The setting up of RILSA Academies within the Schools and member clubs around Ireland will definitely strengthen the sport for ladies snooker in Ireland in the future. A big thank you to the School Principal Charlie for his support and indeed to Leona who is doing a fantastic job running the club and to all the students for their support, and we wish them every success in the future and look forward to many years of promoting snooker at the School.
