The 4th International Irish Ladies Open will commence on Saturday 11th August next at Joey’s Snooker Centre in Harmonstown Dublin.
Like previous years, this years event promises to be a great weekend for female snooker players to enjoy competition and showcase their skills on the green baize. As with previous events the tournament will cater for various standards from beginner to semi professional, with the group round robin stages having mixed standards to give players the opportunity to experience and gain confidence in participation on the International stage.
The field of players will include a number of juniors representing Ireland, England and Albania at Joey’s while our more experienced senior players will be in the mix also.
Rebecca Kenna (Eng) the World number 4 will be hoping to do well, as she is one of the favourites along with World number 1, Shannon Metcalf in the U21 rankings also from England will be looking to do well in Dublin.
Aimee Benn (Eng) is another junior player for the future and holds 4th in the World U21 ranking and 9th currently on the main tour will certainly be up to producing the goods in Joey’s
Our top women’ players from the Republic of Ireland will be gunning for gold at the weekend with Current International Irish Open holder and National Champion in Paula Judge, she will be hoping to retain the title while our number 1 ranked player and runner-up in last years International, Annette Newman will be looking to go one better this time round. Cathy Dunne is also in contention after winning the Intermediate Irish Open Title a few years ago and reaching the final in 2016 and semis of the main event in 2017, will certainly have her say in proceedings.
Other notable players who will be in contention are Susan Hanlon again reaching the semis last year and Michelle O’Boyle who just won the National 6 Red Championship, have all improved in the last few years.
Tina Keogh is fast improving in the sport and along with Valerie Maloney, Rosie Young, Margaret Browne and Christine Carr will be hoping to make progress at this years event. Katie French who took the 6 Red title in last years International is looking forward to it along with Emirjeta Doda our current National U21 Champion and representing Albania once again in Dublin. Young Jennifer Earle is only starting out on her snooker career and is one of our Scholarship Students, it will be a great experience for her at Joey’s
As we celebrate 40 years since the first ever International Challenge between the Republic of Ireland & England, we are holding a friendly Home Nations Challenge between the Republic of Ireland & England, this adds to the festival of events and it will be great fun for all concerned.
