The Republic of Ireland Ladies Billiards Association will have four players taking part in the Welsh Open World Billiards Event in Cwmbran Wales this coming weekend 27th to 28th July 2019.

This is the very first time in Irish female cue sports that we have entries in a World Billiards Event.  Those making history this weekend in Wales are Annette Newman (Carlow) Valerie Maloney (Offaly) Tina Keogh (Laois) and Christine Carr (Kildare)

These women will fly the flag for Ireland and their association at this event.  They have only being playing the sport of English Billiards for 4 years since its inception in December 2015 with the inaugural National Ladies Billiards Championship, since then female billiards in Ireland has gone from strength to strength with 20+ females having had a go at the sport.

Our Calendar of events now includes the National Billiards Championship along with 6 ranking events.  The National Intermediate Billiards Championship with 4 ranking events and this year we will be holding the inaugural 100 Up National Ladies Billiards Championship.

All our ladies are excited and really looking forward to this World Billiards Event in Wales and are proud to represent their Association and Ireland.  They will all do their best and enjoy the competition.

The standard of players in this mixed event vary from beginner to professional.  Our players will be up against some of the World’s best male players and are going to give it their best effort knowing the standard they are up against but its all about participation, learning and gaining experience which is so important for the development of the female sport.

Thanks to Aidan Murray who has been busy preparing the players for this event over the past number of weeks.  Thanks also to Jim, Brendan and Chris of the CYMS Club Newbridge for their support and use of their club.

A big thank you to Paul Traynor of Sharkx who sponsored the waistcoats for the girls travelling and to RILSA for sponsoring the entry fee.

On behalf of RILSA and the ladies Billiard Association, we wish all the players every good wish and a most enjoyable time in Wales over the weekend in Cwmbran.

Finally we wish to thank Alex Donne and his organisers in the Welsh Billiards Association for their invite and that the event will be an outstanding success for them, as we know the amount of hard work goes into organising an event such as this.
