Joanna Ward from Kildare is on a winning streak as she wins the National Intermediate Billiards Ranking 4 at Sharkx Newbridge. Joanna who took up playing Billiards just 11 months ago, is making a big impact on the National Intermediate Tour for 2020 and her progress now sees her take number 2 spot on the National Intermediate Billiards Rankings for the season.
In the first session Joanna Ward from Kildare was up against Stephanie Morrison from Carlow. As the match progressed in the 30 minutes, nothing could separate them as the alarm sounded, they finished in a draw at 50-50. On the other table Valerie Maloney from Laois had a match on her hands as Jennifer Earle from Dublin, who was keeping in touch with her all the way, with just one minute to go, Jennifer scored 7 points to take the win 51-44
Session 2 saw Stephanie and Valerie both struggle to score well and as the clock ran down it was Stephanie would take the win 37-25. Jennifer and Joanna had a very close encounter as it looked like it would be yet another drawn match as the time ticked away but Joanna scored a cannon on the alarm to take the win by 1 point 53-52.
The final session would see Joanna step up a gear against the current champion Valerie and take the win with her highest 30 minute score to date on 67, result 67-35. Stephanie and Jennifer’s match was slow to start but scoring soon got underway and they settled into the match, Stephanie would go on to take the win on the alarm 36-31
After the points were counted, it would be Joanna taking the win and 3 in a row along with making her highest score to date in 30 minutes, was certainly a great result for her along with now making number 2 on the rankings which will keep her in good stead going into the National Intermediate Billiards Championship this coming weekend.
