Joanna Ward from Kildare secured her second Intermediate Ranking title at Spawell in Dublin recently.
Joanna took on Tina Keogh from Offaly in the prelim round winning the frame needed to advance into the semis. Donna Dunne from Dublin who has just returned to snooker after a number of years away from the sport had a good win over Stephanie Morrison from Carlow in the prelims to meet Jennifer Earle (Dublin) in the semis.
Donna was in good form against Jennifer and took the frame needed for a place in her first ever final while Joanna kept her form against Christine Carr from Kildare to take the frame on the black to reach her second Intermediate final this season.
In the final Joanna took frame 1 comfortably in this best of 3 however frame 2 saw Donna keep close all the way to the pink ball but it was not to be this time for her and Joanna potted pink for frame and match.
Congratulations to Joanna on her win and to Donna on a fine performance throughout. Thanks to all the girls for their support and to Richie and staff of D’Arcy McGees for all their support.
On the National Intermediate Rankings Jennifer Earle is number 1 and 400 points clear of Christine Carr who is in second spot. Joanna’s win brings her into 3rd place with Tina nicely poised in 4th spot. Stephanie now moves into the top 16 at 14th spot and is very capable of making it into the top 8 before the end of the season while Donna is holding 37th place and is certain to make the top 32 after the last event in March.
