On completion of the round robin stages of the Ladies International Irish Open, the players in 3rd & 4th place in their groups qualified into the International Intermediate event at Joey’s Dublin.

Day 2 saw the quarter finals and semis played.

In the top half of the draw, 10 year old Grace Byrne from Carlow caused a few upsets as she took out 2014 Intermediate RILSA Champion Valerie Maloney from Offaly 2 frames to nil and again produced great play against Emirjeta Doda representing Albania and U/21 Champion by 2 frames to nil to advance into her first International final.

The bottom half of the draw saw Laura Alves from Brazil win her quarter final match against Lauren Carley from Carlow 2-1.  In the semis Laura stepped up a gear against another Carlow woman, Aine Brennan to win 2 nil and a place in the Intermediate final.

The final was the best of 5 frames on day 3 of the festival of events in Dublin and Laura went into a 2 frame lead against young Grace Byrne.  After the interval Laura proved too strong and took the frame needed to take the title.

Congratualtions to Laura on her win and we are delighted for her as she has put many years into snooker and the win is well deserved.  Young Grace Byrne was up against the experienced Laura, however she gave her a good game and she should be very proud of her efforts over the weekend and Grace certainly is a player to watch out for in the future.

Well done to everyone in the Intermediate event and a big thank you to Derek Fagan and staff of Joey’s for providing fantastic facilities over the 3 days

Thanks to Mick Fitz from Clontarf Media for all his help and support and again we were delighted to have Clr Deirdre Heney represent the Lord Mayor of Dublin at the presentation of prizes.

Thanks to the RILSA committee for all their hard work and support

Thanks to Dave Seales who refereed the final and Fran Keogh for Marking.  Thanks to Larry O’Dea for his great support as always.
