Leon Costello kept up his winning streak by taking the Griffith Tour 5 event at Sharkx recently after his recent Battle of Clontarf Plate event Win at Joey’s Dublin.

Leon reached the final with 2-0 wins over Alan Beale in the quarters and Annette Newman in the semis while at the other end of the draw, Christine Carr was in great form having wins over Gary Seales in the quarters and Dan Carroll in the semis all 2-0.

The final was a close encounter with Christine taking frame 1 on the pink after a great bout of snooker from both players.  Frame 2 went to Leon to level.  Frame 3 started well for Leon having a 31 break, but Christine was in fine form and brought the game to Leon who had to knuckle down, which he did to clear from green to black to take the win.

Congratulations to Leon on his win and to Christine on a great performance throughout.

This was the last Tour event before the Championship in October and it set out the top 4 players in both the main Tour rankings and Plate rankings.  Leon’s performance brought him into 2nd spot with 550 points just behind Annette Newman who has 580 points.

This was the closest tour rankings since its inception 7 years ago and a big thank you to everyone for their support.

In the Plate event on the night, Dave Seales had a good win over Peter McDermott to move Dave into 3rd place on 450 points with Dan Carroll holding 4th spot with 390 points.

Alan Beale tops the Tour Plate Rankings on 500 points while Declan Tuohy finishes 2nd also on 500 points with only 1 merit point separating them.  Again the closest contested plate event.

Well done to Alan on taking top spot and to Declan on 2nd place.
