The Republic of Ireland Ladies Snooker Association were delighted to bestow International Cap Awards to Margaret Browne and Annette Newman at their Awards Ceremony in Tullamore recently.
The International Cap Award was introduced by RILSA in recognition of our players who represent Ireland at World, European and International events going back to 1976 to 2004 and from 2014 to date.
Players who reach 10 caps receive the Bronze Award, 15 Caps will receive the Silver Award and 20+ Caps will receive the Gold Cap Award.
Players who reach 5+ Caps will receive a certificate.
Its so important to recognise players who have represented their Country and this award encourages players to participate and gain awards in the future.
Margaret Browne first represented Ireland at the inaugural International two leg event against England in 1978 and has since represented Ireland at the following events.
1993 Pontins British Masters in the UK
1993, 1994, 1995 World Ladies Snooker Championships all held in the UK
In 1996 Margaret along with Paula Darby were to win the Home Internationals for Ireland for the very first time in beating the Isle of Man 3-1 in the final at Pontins Wales
Again Margaret represented Ireland at the Home Internationals in Pontins Wales in 1998
1999 saw Margaret play in her first European Championship in the Netherlands
In 2015 at the Ladies International Irish Open in Dublin, Margaret reached the quarters of the main event.
Margaret played in her 10th event in 2015 at the Ladies World Championships in Leeds UK.
Annette first represented Ireland at the Ladies World Championships in Woking UK in 1993 and again in 1994.
2015 saw Annette reach the Quarters of the Ladies International Irish Open in Dublin
2015 was yet another World Championships for Annette in Leeds UK and again back to Leeds in 2016 for the World’s followed by Ladies UK Championship in Cambridge UK also in 2016
The 2016 Ladies International Irish Open saw Annette improve on 2015 going into the semis of the main event.
The 2017 Ladies International Irish Open was even better for Annette, this time reaching the Final
In 2018 the Ladies International Irish Open was to see Annette reach the semis again. She was part of the Irish team in the Challenge Home Nations event between Ireland & England at Joey’s Dublin.
Both Margaret & Annette received certificates and Bronze Pin’s which are difficult to attain as the number of events you have to reach are over a long time.
These players are also well within reach of gaining the Silver Pin award over the next few years as RILSA also recognises players who will represent their Country at Billiards also.
