Megan Randle from Wicklow won the 2019 RILSA National U21 Snooker Championship at Sharkx Newbridge recently defeating the current Champion Emirjeta Doda from Dublin in the final.

With a great turnout for this event up from 2018, we in RILSA are delighted with the progress in our promotions in the junior area of the organisation.  153 young girls have now competed in RILSA junior events since 2014, a fantastic achievement for RILSA.

In the quarters, Emirjeta Doda saw off Naomi Moore with a comfortable win for a semi final place while Katelyn O’Reilly had a good win over Niamh Barrett to meet Emirjeta in the semis.  The bottom half of the draw saw Megan Randle go through to the semis with a good win over Sileena Ennis and Jennifer Earle was in good form against Candice Craugwell to meet Megan and complete the semi final line up.

The current U21 Champion Emirjeta Doda was too strong for Katelyn O’Reilly and won  with a number of small breaks to reach her 6th U21 Final in 6 years, a fantastic achievement for Emirjeta.

The other semi final between Megan and Jennifer was a closer affair for a while but Megan began to step up a gear and did so to take the frame needed to win and meet Emirjeta in the Final.

In the final both players were close for a while but Megan took her chances and potted well towards the end to take the match and win over Emirjeta to take the title of RILSA National U21 Snooker Champion 2019.

Its great to see the RILSA scholarship is helping our girls make progress even though its early days, we see Magan who reached the semis last year now come along to take the title this time round while Jennifer made it through to the semis.  Great results for these girls going forward.  Emirjeta can certainly hold her head up high after reaching her 6th U21 Final in 6 years and winning 4 out of the 6 is amazing, this will be a record that is going to be difficult to beat.  National Ranking points were up for grabs for all those participating and will add to the excitement of the RILSA Tour 2019-2020 as we move to our next Ranking in Celbridge on Saturday 16th November.

Congratulations to Megan on her win and to Emirjeta on a fine performance.  Thanks to all the girls who took part and helped make it a great success once again.  Thanks to Dave for refereeing and to Bernie & Paul of Sharkx for their support.
