After the round robin stages of the Ladies International Irish Open at D’Arcy McGees Spawell, the stage was set for the knockout stage of both the Main and Challenge Trophy events.

In the Challenge Trophy event, Michelle French once again was in contention to retain the title she won in 2018 at Joey’s Dublin.  In her quarter final match against the current Irish U21 Champion, Emirjeta Doda, Michelle had to dig deep to overcome a fight from Emirjeta, with Michelle taking frame 1 on the pink ball, Emirjeta responded well in frame 2 to level this best of 3 match, however Michelle held firm to win the 3rd frame and send her into the semis against the youngster Jennifer Earle.

At the other end of the draw, we saw Margaret Browne one the our veterans of the sport see off Rachael Bradley 2 nil in their quarter final match to meet Laura Alves from Brazil, who won this event in 2017.

Laura Alves was put to the test against Margaret as she took frame 1 on the pink ball in this best of 5 semi final.  Laura played well in frame 2 to take it but frame 3 was much closer with Margaret having chances to take it however Laura potted pink and black for frame and match to reach yet another International final.

Michelle started well against Jennifer taking frame 1 comfortably but Jennifer responded well to keep close to Michelle in frame 2 but Michelle took it on the colours and again showed her experience to finish off frame 3 on the colours to win the match 3 nil and meet Laura in the Final.

In the final Michelle took frame 1 with Laura coming back to level the match at 1-1 in this best of 5 final.  Michelle won frame 3 comfortably.  Frame 4 was close all the way to pink and black where Michelle took both to give her the win and retain the title for the second year.

Congratulations to Michelle on her win and to Laura on a fine performance throughout.  Well done to all the ladies who took part and made the event such a great success once again.
