Michelle O’Boyle from Kildare is the new RILSA 6 Red National Champion.  This is Michelle’s first National Title after a number of years on the ladies snooker circuit.

On her way to the final, Michelle met Christine Carr (Kildare) in the quarters and this best of 3 frames went down to the wire to a black ball finish in the 3rd, with Michelle potting the black to send her into the semis where she was to meet Valerie Maloney (Offaly), the first frame went to another black ball finish with Michelle taking it, however Michelle went up a gear in the second to win comfortably to put her into her first RILSA final

At the other end of the draw we saw Irish number 1 Annette Newman (Carlow) take on the ever improving Katie French in the quarters, while Katie played well, Annette’s experience won through for a 2-0 win.  Annette was to meet Tina Keogh from Laois in the semis and with the match level at 1-1, Annette had to play well to oust Tina who has shown great improvement in ladies snooker over the past number of months.  Annette won the 3rd frame to move into the final against Michelle.

Michelle started very well winning the first two frames in this best of 5 final and was looking to win 3 nil, however Annette played some great snooker to come back into the match levelling it at 2-2, the 5th and final frame was tense for a while with both players neck and neck down to the colours, Michelle went ahead going into the colours and she potted Green and Brown to leave Annette needing snookers, Annette shook Michelle’s hand and congratulated her on the win.

This win for Michelle put’s her into provisional number 2 as the season gets underway.  This is the highest ranking achieved by Michelle in women’s snooker and it will certainly give her food for thought as she has a position to try and hold onto.  Annette moves back into provisional number 1, this is also great news for the 3 times number 1 as she is well poised to possibly make it 4 seasons in a row at number 1.

Tina is now at her highest ranking also at number 3 while Valerie moves up from 16 to 4 on the provisional rankings going into the new season.  The provisional ranking is used to seed players in each event during the season while the end of season final ranking is held by the players for a year.

Congratulations to Michelle on her win and to Annette for a great performance, well done to Tina & Val reaching the semis along with a big thank you to all the players for their participation.

In the plate event we saw Christine take on the young Roisin in the final where Christine won 2-0, well done to Christine and to Roisin reaching the final.

Thanks to Bernie & Paul of Sharkx for all their help and support and providing excellent playing conditions
