Joey’s Snooker Club in Harmonstown Dublin has been one of Dublin’s Snooker landmark clubs for over 40 years.  I remember playing at the club in 1979 when it boosted 19 tables which you had to book prior to visiting the club such was the interest back then and sometimes you had to book a few days in advance, in particular during the winter months or when the World Championships was on the TV.

Thousands of budding snooker players have visited the club over the years with many becoming part of the furniture at Joey’s.  The club had many successes over the years with Joey’s winning both DBSL team and cup titles.

Professional players such as Ken Doherty, Fergal O’Brien, Jimmy White and Stephen Lee just to mention a few played exhibitions at the club.

Stars Academy Ireland held many underage tournaments over the years with great success.  Players such as Jason Devaney, Josh Boileau, David Cassidy, Daniel Dempsey, Aaron Holland, Darragh Cusack, Stephen Sheerin, Alan Bridgeman all had success at Joeys and made great progress on the National Circuit with Josh Boileau making it onto the Professional ranks after winning the European Under 21 Championship.

The Dublin Snooker Federation Leagues had great success also at Joey’s with the Joey’s team taking the league title on 4 occasions, 2014,15,16 and 2018.  Aaron Holland won the Individual title in 2015 & 2016 for the club while Joey’s also took the Cup title in 2016.

Two very successful Snooker Shoot Out events were held at Joey’s in aid of the Hospice in Raheny and our annual battle of Clontarf Championship took place at Joey’s over the past 5 years bringing many new visitors and players to the club.

The Republic of Ireland Ladies Snooker Association were welcomed to Joey’s back in 2014 after holding their Championship there and soon became part of the club’s annual calendar of events.  The inaugural Ladies International Irish Open took place at Joey’s in 2015 and did so every year since, we will miss Joey’s and the many friendships that were made at the club over the years.

On behalf of Stars Academy Ireland, Dublin Snooker Federation and RILSA I want to thank Derek Fagan and staff of Joey’s for all their kind help, support and friendship towards our promotions which would never have been the success they were without their support over the years.

The walls of the club will forever softly speak of the many frames of snooker, table talk, and friendships made during those years.  Great times were had by everyone who visited Joey’s
