Portarlington Snooker club have just re-opened and became the 27th club to come on board with Stars Academy Ireland in their support of the junior game. With now over 600 young players taking part in Stars Academy events this season the sport is growing throughout Ireland. 642-812
These young people are now coming out and playing snooker and supporting our School/Colleges initative. With more Schools now showing an interest and Ken Doherty giving his support and encouragement towards this worth while venture, we rest assure of its future.
More and more small clubs are opening around the Country and they know that in order for them to be able to sustain their membership they need the younger players to come in and get involved. Portarlington CY is one of these clubs that are ready to do their bit for the sport. The great help and organisation of Chris, Pat, Mark and Wayne will surely see them reach their objectives and I and Stars Academy Ireland welcome them on board and we will give them all the help and support we can. 16 young players gathered together in the club recently to an introduction to the sport by World Snooker Coach and Stars Academy Ireland organiser, Dan Carroll. They were given a talk on the Psychology of the game and then shown the basics of the game with more follow up days planned over the coming months. They all enjoyed the coaching and are very eager to learn and become better at the game.
