The Republic of Ireland Ladies Snooker Association held their 28th coaching session in 15 months, in Carlow recently and it was great to see our National Champion Annette Newman give of her time towards the young girls and newcomers to the sport. Annette was honoured recently by the Nationalist and Carlow businesses for her achievement in taking the Ladies National title and this has spurred interest in the County among the women and girls to take up the sport.
Carlow is very proud of their National Champion and Annette’s involvement with encouraging and promoting the sport in the schools is very much appreciated by the Association and we thank her for all her help and support.
We want to welcome Lauren Carley from Carlow to our Association and we wish her the very best for the future in the sport. RILSA now have 22 players on the National Ranking list from Carlow, a fantastic number of girls and women from the County and this will increase during the season with the likes of Lauren and more girls coming through our school initiative.
Aine Brennan who is only new to the circuit, recently reached her first semi final in Joey’s Dublin at the Ladies Griffith Cup, one to watch for the future.
World Snooker Coach, Dan Carroll was very impressed with the ever increasing standard of our young players and the fact that more women are now taking to snooker is amazing and it shows, if you put in the time and energy, things can happen.
RILSA Coaching sessions will continue every month and we will be visiting the Dublin clubs and schools along with Portarlington and Newbridge before the Christmas.
