Sandra Bryan secured her 3rd win of the RILSA season recently, winning the Stars Academy Ladies Masters Ranking 2 at the Ivy Rooms, Carlow beating Margaret Browne from Navan in the final. This was Margaret’s first final this season and she came through a hard battle in the semis against the current number 2 Annette Newman. 17 players entered the event and the standard of play is ever improving. 9 new faces to the RILSA Ranking this time out, brings our total of lady players to 50 who have taken part in events, this is an all time record for the ladies sport of snooker here in Ireland.
The top half of the draw saw the current National Champion and number 1, Sandra Bryan comfortably reach the final with wins over Megan King (Hacketstown, Carlow), Christine Carr from Sharkx, Newbridge in the quarters and our National U/21 Champion, Emirjeta Doda in the semis from CBS Dublin. The bottom half of the draw saw some tough matches won by Margaret Browne from Navan and the current number 3 to meet Sandra in the final, beating along the way, Crystle Nolan (Hacketstown, Carlow), Valerie Maloney (Laois) our current National Intermediate Ladies Champion in the quarters, a very close encounter against our number 2 player, Annette Newman in the semis. Congratulations to Sandra on her win and to Margaret on a great performance. Dan Carroll presented Valerie Maloney from Portarlington S.C., with her National Intermediate Shield.
In the final, Margaret gave it all she could, but was out potted by the in form Sandra Bryan to give her the title of Stars Academy Ladies Masters Champion 2014. This was the last Ranking for 2014 and we look forward to the 7th February 2015 to our next Ranking event.
In the Intermediate Ranking event, newcomer, Crystle Nolan from Carlow beat Englentina Doda from Dublin in their final. Englentina now takes the number 1 spot on the Intermediate rankings and Crystles win places her in 4th spot. Congratulations to Crystle on her win and to Englentina on gaining number 1 on the rankings. A big thank you to everyone who took part and supported the ladies sport and thanks to Marian and staff of the Ivy Rooms for excellent facilities on the day.
