Saturday 14th March saw the second Griffith Tour of the season take place at the Ivy Rooms Carlow. The competition was great on the day, with everyone playing good snooker. In the quarter finals Ronan Deegan overcame a great challenge from Dave Seales 2-1 to go through to the semis. Dan Carroll was in form against Leon Costello with breaks of 24 and 26 secured his place against Ronan in the semis beating Leon 2 nil. The bottom half of the draw saw Annette Newman win 2 frames to nil against newcomer Hrvoje Ribaric and on the other table Gary Seales saw off the challenge from Robert Rogers by winning on the black in frame 3 to meet Annette in the semis.
Both semi finals went the distance of 3 frames, with Dan having his chances to win in the second frame against Ronan only needing the pink, however Ronan took it to level the match and in the third frame had good breaks of 20 and 36 to put him into his second tour final. Again very little in it between Gary and Annette in their semi final, Gary overcame the pressure put on him from Annette to win the third frame and to set up another tour final against Ronan.
Ronan was in great form and even though Gary had chances to level the match, Ronan proved too strong and won 2 nil for his second tour win in a row. Congratulations to Ronan on his win and to Gary for once again a fine performance. Congratulations to Robert Rogers who won the plate event against Dave Seales. Thanks to all the players for their support and we look forward to our next tour event in May. Thanks to Sharon in the Ivy rooms for all her help and to Marian for providing excellent facilities as usual. The Griffith Tour members want to wish Annette the very best of luck at the Ladies World Championships in Leeds next month.
