Sandra Bryan from Wexford retained the National RILSA 6 Red title at Joey’s Dublin recently winning on the pink ball in the final frame against Irish number 1 Annette Newman from Carlow.
Sandra had a tough match in her semi final against the ever improving Laura Alves, with Laura leading 2-1 and only needing 1 more to reach the final, Sandra stuck in there and pulled back to level at 2-2, the 5th and final frame was close, going down to the pink in which Sandra potted to send her into the final. On the other table Annette played very well and beat Lauren Carley from Carlow 3-0 to meet Sandra once again in a repeat of last years final. Lauren was delighted to reach her first semi final at a RILSA event and there is no doubt that Lauren will improve further and will do very well in the future.
These two players have dominated the RILSA scene over the past few seasons as they have gone neck and neck in many
events and all very close matches indeed. Very little between these great players who have set the standard and along with Cathy Dunne who is making a fantastic return to RILSA winning 3 events last season.
Congratulations to Sandra on retaining the title and to Annette on her fine performance.
All these players have vast experience in the sport and are ambassadors for the future as they encourage and help the younger members into the sport.
We held a plate event for all those knocked out earlier in the Championship and in her semi final against Christine Carr, Laura Alves won on a 25 break clearance in the 3rd frame. Lauren Carley continued her fine form beating Emma Carr in their semi final 2-0 to meet Laura in the final. With the final level at 1-1 it came down to the pink ball in the final frame, which Laura potted to win.
Well done to Laura on her win and to Lauren for a great performance throughout.
