Sandra Bryan took the Dublin Ladies Open event in another close encounter with Annette Newman at Joey’s snooker club recently.  Sandra has secured her number 1 spot for the season and has won all 4 ranking events along with the National Championship to date, a fantastic record for the Wexford woman.  Annette Newman also performed fantastically throughout the season by reaching 3 ranking finals and 1 semi final place and was runner up in the National Championship to give her the number 2 spot on the National rankings.  With Emirjeta Doda and Margaret Browne taking the number 3 and 4 spots with consistent performances all season, the 2015 Championship in May is going to be another great event for these players, with very little between them its all there for the taking.

Sandra Bryan in her semi final against Margaret Browne was under pressure with the match 1-1 and the 3rd frame went down to a black ball, with Margaret having chances, but Sandra took on a difficult pot on the black and sunk it into the pocket for her place in the final.  During Annette’s match against Christine Carr, it too went to 1-1 with Christine playing good snooker, but Annette was the stronger on the day and potted some great shots with 18 and 22 breaks to close out the match and give her a place against Sandra in the final.

RILSA Group 3

The final was again a very close affair with both players making good their game and levelling the match 1-1 the 3rd frame was close all the way to the brown, when Sandra potted both brown and blue to leave Annette needing a snooker to win with pink and black but was unfortunate to go in off giving Sandra frame and match.

Congratulations to Sandra on her win and to Annette on another fine performance.

Emirjeta & AnnetteSandra & Mags

Other players making the top 8 places this season and now seeded into the Championship in May are 5th Christine Carr, 6th Valerie Maloney, 7th Tina Keogh and 8th Laura Regan.  Congratulations to all these and a big thank you to all the other players for their support and participation during all our events so far.

Valerie & Grace

In the Intermediate event, Valerie Maloney beat newcomer Grace Jordan in their final and this puts Valerie top of the Intermediate National rankings and with Grace making the final in her first event now puts her in a respectable 10th position.  Congratulations to Valerie on her win and to Grace on great performance.  Laura Regan now sits in 2nd spot on the Intermediate rankings closely followed by Faye Jameson and Englentina Doda taking 3rd and 4th places.

We welcome newcomers Grace Jordan, Jessica Kazimba, Sheba Kazimba and Ciara Lennon who took part and joined RILSA on the day. We wish them every success and look forward to seeing them at the National Championship in May.

65 Ladies have now played in RILSA events to date, another record for the Republic of Ireland Ladies Snooker Association and we are well under way to reaching 300 members by years end.  This is just amazing in such a short time to have broken all records and gained so much support towards our efforts.  We appreciate all our sponsors and supporters.  Thanks to Derek Fagan and staff of Joey’s snooker club for providing excellent facilities and to Keith once again making sure everyone was looked after with food, teas and coffees.

We look forward to Saturday 9th May to what will be another great turnout and competition at Joey’s for the 2015 National Ladies Snooker Championship.
