The inaugural Ladies National Masters Championship took place in Sharkx Newbridge recently.  Sandra Bryan from Wexford took the title after a play off with Annette Newman from Carlow, in yet another black ball finish in the final frame.

The Noel Murphy Memorial Shield was the National Masters Prize as play got underway at Sharkx.

Noel was a fantastic supporter of women’s cue sports and gave over 15 years of his time to refereeing at almost every event during the 80’s and 90’s, travelling all over the Country to help out at the tournaments.  Noel was a great referee and supporter and we are delighted to have this event named after him, so very well deserved.

During the round robin stages, Annette Newman had a good 2-0 win over Tina Keogh from Laois who put up a great fight throughout their match while Sandra Bryan had two black ball frames against Susan Hanlon from Dublin who is fast improving on the National RILSA Tour.

The second round of matches saw Annette and Cathy Dunne from Dublin level their match 1-1 and Sandra took Tina 2-0 in another close encounter.

Round three saw Annette & Susan draw level at 1-1, while Cathy had a good 2-0 win over Tina.  The 4th round matches were close between Susan and Cathy with both players playing well, it’s was a deserved 1-1 draw while Annette had a good 2-0 win over Sandra to go ahead on points.

The final match between Susan & Tina saw them level at 1-1 while Sandra overcame Cathy 2-0 to go level on points with Annette to see out a final frame shootout between these two players.

With the frame going down to the wire once again between these two top players, it was to be Sandra’s day, potting the black to win the title.

Congratulations to Sandra on her win and to Annette on a great performance

Cathy was is good form throughout and we saw something extra from both Tina & Susan as they certainly upped their game and are now making great headway in the sport as their improvement is showing signs of great progress, it’s only just a matter of time for these women who will advance towards winning events in the near future at the top level of our amateur snooker here in Ireland

Thanks to all the players for a fantastic tournament and thanks to Paul & Bernie of Sharkx for all their help and support as always.
