The Griffith Tour got under way at Sharkx Snooker Club, Newbridge on Saturday 9th February.
With the interest growing for these events we are able to increase the prize fund and we hope that
will be the norm for its future. This is all about grassroots snooker, giving players the opportunity to
play competitively and improve their standard of play. This Snooker Shield competition saw some
great snooker on the day with numerous 30 and 40 breaks and excellent safety and tactical play from
everyone throughout the event. Anthony Clifford last year’s Champion beat Annette Newman the
number 1 from last year 2 frames to nil in their quarter final. Newcomer Steve Patten went through
to meet Anthony beating Robert Rogers 2 nil. In the bottom half of the quarters Ronan Deegan beat
Gary Seales 2 nil and Stephen McAdam beat Larry O’Dea 2 nil also to set up the semi final line up.
Steve Patten fought a close encounter against Anthony Clifford to eventually come through 2 frames
to nil for a place in his first final, Stephen McAdam had a very close match against Ronan Deegan
going down to the final black with Stephen taking it to give him his first final on the Tour. Stephen
McAdam took the first frame on a re spotted black and turned on the pace with some great snooker
to win the second frame and give him his first tour win and the title of Tour Shield Champion 2013.
Congratulations on Stephen on his win and to Steve for a fine performance. Thanks to everyone who
supported and took part on the day. A special thanks to Bernie and Sharkx for their support and as
always providing excellent facilities.
