Thursday 27th March saw Ireland’s first U/14 School & College Snooker Championship take place in Joey’s Snooker Club, Dublin. The U/14 Cup is dedicated to Larry O’Dea the Stars Academy Ireland President and Larry has given a good number of years in support of the junior game. We want to thank Larry for all his years of support and help with the junior game and we all wish him well for the future.642-736

The CBS Westland Row were the School who took part in this first ever U/14 event and all the players qualified through the School via a league run by Alan Bailey. The players were very excited to be part of history and well deserved to one and all for their efforts and to Alan and everyone involved with the CBS Westland Row.

In the quarters, James Bray Duffy had a very close match against Patrick Corcoran to win 2-1 for a semi final place. Aaron Payne beat Josh Swaine in another close encounter 2-1 to go through to the semis. Beloy Nalasco played his best snooker to date to win 2-1 over Michael McCluskey and Ciaran Sheridan was in fine form beating David Lawless 2 nil to complete the semifinal line up.

Again both semifinal matches were very close but James Bray Duffy and Ciaran Sheridan held their nerve to win 2-1 over Aaron Payne and Beloy Nalasco respectively for their place in the final. In the final James Bray Duffy went into a 1 nil lead over Ciaran Sheridan but Ciaran came back in a close frame to level the match 1-1. Ciaran Sheridan opened frame 3 with a 14 and had to play safe, James took on some difficult pots and let Ciaran in to make breaks of 17 and 21 to secure the frame and take the first ever U/14 School & College Snooker title the Larry O’Dea Cup.
