The Inaugural Intermediate Billiards National Ranking event 1 got underway recently at Sharkx Newbridge. Valerie Maloney from Offaly won her first Gold Medal in Billiards as she set the standard for Intermediate Ladies Billiards here in Ireland.
Runner Up spot went to young Roisin Beale from Kildare in a close contested event between her and Stephanie Morrison from Carlow to see who would get Silver, only 1 point separated these players after their timed match at Sharkx.
So with the Intermediate Billiards now up and running, we can look forward to a number of ranking events over the summer months as we approach the National Intermediate Billiards Championship in the Autumn.
Valerie showed promise back in 2016 when she reached the final of the National Championship and again was impressive reaching the final of the Inaugural Intermediate National Championship in 2017. Her run to gain runner-up in the recent National Billiards Ranking 4 put her in good stead as the Intermediate season got underway in Newbridge.
This is Valerie’s first win in National Billiards and so well deserved as she has been trying very hard for the past 3 years to get this win and Valerie now top’s the Intermediate Billiards Ranking.
Roisin’s runner-up spot is her first medal win in Billiards and this is certainly encouraging for this 12-year-old and one to look out for in the future of women’s billiards.
Stephanie is only on the National Circuit a short time and is improving all the time as she makes progress in the sport.
Congratulations to Valerie on her win and to Roisin on her fine performance along with Stephanie. Thanks to all the ladies for their participation and support.
Thanks to Annette who was on hand to help out with some advice and coaching and a big thank you to Bernie, Paul and staff of Sharkx for all their help.
