The Ladies Billiards Intermediate National Championship was held in the CYMS Newbridge recently where Valerie Maloney from Cloneygowan Co Offaly took the title.

Valerie who is the current National Intermediate Billiards number 1 in Ireland was tipped for the title, however Tina Keogh also from Offaly was in contention as her game has improved greatly over the season.

Newcomer Jennifer Earle from Dublin is beginning to make headway in the sport and is certainly one to watch for the future.

In this timed round robin event, Valerie started well against Jennifer where she took the match 48-21.  Jennifer was to have a closer match against Tina with Tina moving ahead with 5 minutes to go on the clock to knock in a 12 break to finish with the win 40-31

Valerie started well against Tina in their match and was making headway after 20 minutes, however Tina came back strong with a few small breaks again on the clock to win against Valerie 44-41 yet another close match on the evening.

Valerie’s points against Jennifer and keeping close to Tina gave her the win 89 to Tina’s 84, so very close with Jennifer finishing on 52 overall.

Valerie who is the current number 1 on the Intermediate Billiards Ranking will start number 1 provisionally in 2020 with Tina in second spot followed by Jennifer in 3rd and Roisin Beale in 4th place.

Congratulations to Valerie on her great win and to Tina on a fine performance.  Thanks to all the players for their support and thanks to Jim Carrick and committee of the CYMS for providing excellent facilities.
