Annette Newman from Carlow won the 2024 Griffith Pot Black Championship at the RILSA Academy Sharkx recently. This is Annette’s second time to win this event which started back in 2020 to encourage more participation in female cue sports
Those who reached the qualifying attendances at events would receive the Griffith Pin and would then go on to qualify to play in the Griffith Pot Black where the winner would receive a full year’s free entry to snooker events.
This initiative has been very successful over the years. Tina Keogh won it in 2020, Sandra Bryan in 2021, Annette Newman in 2022, Joanna Ward in 2023 and Annette Newman again in 2024
Annette will receive free entry to all RILSA events in 2025
At the Quarter Final stage of the event Jackie Trulock from Dublin ousted Grushenka Arnold from Wicklow in a close frame, Annette Newman from Carlow took the frame from Veronica Hallahan from Dublin to meet Jackie in the semis
At the other end of the draw we saw Christine Carr from Kildare take the win on a pink ball against Joanna Ward from Kildare and again another close frame played between Valerie Maloney from Laois and Tina Keogh from Offaly saw Valerie take it to meet Christine in the semis
Annette had to play well against Jackie to take the win on the colours for a place in the final and Christine had a good win over Valerie to meet Annette in the final
In the final it was close all the way to a black ball which Annette potted for frame and match and the title of Griffith Pot Black Snooker Champion 2024
Congratulations to Annette on her win and well done to Christine on her runner up spot. Thanks to all the ladies for their support. Thanks to Bernie, Paul and staff of Sharkx for all their help and support
