Paula Judge retains the Maureen Butler Cup @ Sharkx Newbridge

The 2018 Maureen Butler Cup got under way at the RILSA Academy at Sharkx Newbridge recently.  Paula Judge from Dublin retained the title and in doing so is the 3rd player to have done so. The inaugural Maureen Butler Cup event was won by Brid Maxwell in 1969 and Brid went on to retain the title in 1970 along with winning it for a 3rd time in 1972. Annette Newman wins the 3rd Billiards Ranking of the season at Sharkx

Annette Newman from Carlow is back to her winning ways as she took the Stars Academy Masters Billiards Ranking event 3 at Sharkx recently.  The current National Champion and number 1 came out firing on all cylinders with fine performances in the 3rd National women’s billiards event recently. Annette won her first round robin match against the young Roisin Beale from Kildare with a comfortable 65-14 result in their timed match. With the last RILSA National Ranking event of the season finishing at the end of March 2018, it was a scramble for a number of players to keep within the top 16 while many were trying to improve their seasons ranking. The 4th National Stars Academy Special Needs Championship took place at Sharkx Newbridge recently with a great turnout. Connor Flynn from St Marks Newbridge took the title in style with a good win over Tristan Hurley from St Laserians in Carlow. The Republic of Ireland Ladies Snooker Association held a pre season coaching day at their Academy at Sharkx Newbridge recently.  The RILSA National Coach, Dan Carroll gave a free day’s coaching to the ladies who attended. Dan talked about the importance of psychology and focus combined with self-control as part of the development in improving standards among the players. Technique and skills training was introduced to those in attendance and the need to practice more in developing all areas of their game towards an overall improvement over time.
