Annette Newman from Carlow won the Inaugural National Ladies Billiards Matchplay Championship recently at the RILSA Academy Sharkx Newbridge. this new event is to mark 10 years of Female Billiards in Ireland and it is fitting that Annette won the title as she has dominated Female Billiards over the 10 years making this her 17th National title win and again setting a new record for others to try and beat in the future
The event is a timed knockout long format Championship which is now added to our already 15 events on our calendar to help grow Female Billiards here in Ireland
At the quarter final stage of the event we saw Veronica Hallahan from Dublin take the win against Brigid Mulvany for a place in the semis and Joanna Ward from Kildare had to dig deep in her match to get over the line against the youngster Natalia Trochonowicz also from Kildare by 4 points on the alarm 160-156 to complete the semi final line up
Annette Newman from Carlow got her Semi Final Championship match off to a great start with a good win over the ever improving Veronica Hallahan from Dublin on the alarm 152-76. On the other table Christine Carr from Kildare took the win on the alarm against Joanna Ward also from Kildare 165-147
In the final Christine went into a 20 point lead in the first 15 minutes with Annette playing catch up however as the match went on Annette closed the gap and then went ahead showing her skills and scoring well each time to the table with 30 minutes remaining Christine would have to score well to catch Annette who by now was 100+ points ahead going into the final 15 minutes. Annette continued her good form and finished with the win on the alarm 289-172 and take the Inaugural title as Irish Ladies National Matchplay Billiards Champion 2025
