Annette Newman from Carlow won her 4th National Amateur Billiards Ranking event of the season, The Leinster Open at the RILSA Academy Sharkx Newbridge. Annette’s win puts her in a good lead on the National Rankings and is looking good to keep her number 1 spot for the 7th season in a row.
In the first session Annette Newman from Carlow just pipped Stephanie Foley also from Carlow in a close match to finish with the win 46-42. Christine Carr from Kildare played good billiards against Jennifer Earle from Dublin to take the win in the bell 58-30. Tina Keogh from Offaly won her match against Valerie Maloney from Laois and scored well to finish on the alarm 65-28
Session 2 saw Annette get into her stride and take the win against Tina on the alarm 67-27, Valerie got her first win of the evening against Jennifer finishing on the bell 50-26 and Stephanie would oust Christine on the alarm 56-29 to take her first win of the event
In session 3 Annette continued her form and won against Valerie 69-32 while Christine had to dig deep against Tina to eventually get over the line 47-40. Stephanie also continued her good form and took the win against Jennifer on the alarm 64-17
Session 4 saw Annette take the win against Jennifer on the bell 63-24 to keep her winning streak going. Tina overcame a challenge from Stephanie to take the win on the bell 45-41 in a close contest and it would come down to the wire between Christine and Valerie with Christine taking the win on the bell 47-46 for another nail biting match
The 5th and final session would see Annette take a clean sweep of wins with a good score of 79 against Christine with a score of 47 on the alarm. Stephanie kept Valerie at bay towards the final minutes to take the win on the alarm 45-37 and Tina finished with a good win over Jennifer 57-29 on the bell.
Once the scores were tallied it would be Annette who would take the title with Stephanie taking runner up spot. 3rd place was Tina followed in 4th by Christine.
