Female Cue Sports Ireland got the new year off to a great start regarding the increase in Female Cue Sports Coaches with an introductory level course completed at their Academy Sharkx Newbridge recently, bringing it to 12 trained female coaches to date

Dan Carroll and Annette Newman were on hand to deliver this course that is approved by SB Ireland and supported by Sport Ireland.  Thanks to Annette who did an excellent job explaining and demonstrating the sport of Billiards to the students.

We were delighted to see 6 ladies take part in the course.  Two teachers from FCJ Bunclody in Wexford, Ciara Doyle and Hilary Fitzgerald were delighted to complete the course and are looking forward to commencing their developments and promotions in the near future at the school

Stephanie Foley and Valerie Maloney from Carlow and Laois respectively and members of the Board of Female Cue Sports Ireland and both are players on the tour are looking forward to encouraging more females into the sport in the future.

Veronica Hallahan and Jackie Trulock both from Dublin are members of Female Cue Sports Ireland and players on tour are very interested in cue sports and will be on hand to help out anyone who wishes to take up cue sports

The course itself concentrated on the basics of both snooker and billiards, starting with the table and how to maintain it, the importance of the cue and ensuring safety around the table.

The set up of the balls and basic rules for both snooker and billiards followed with a demonstration on the bridge, bridge arm and grip and stance.

The students were put through their paces in brushing and blocking the tables, setting up the balls and questioned on the basic rules.  They were then required to demonstrate the bridge, grip and stance while striking the cue ball in the centre

Congratulations to all the ladies who completed the course and were presented with their certificates and course packs on the day.  They will play a vital part in our future development,  in particular at grass root level within our club and school areas and we are delighted to have them on board
