Annette Newman from Carlow retained her National 10 Red Championship Title at the RILSA Academy recently.
With Michelle French from Kildare and Megan Randle from Wicklow seeded into the Quarter Finals, it was down to those in the last 16 to fight it out to advance into the quarters.
In the last 16 Sandra Bryan from Wexford saw off a valent effort from Christine Carr from Kildare to go through with a 2 nil score line in their match. Valerie Maloney from Laois had to fight hard to see off Jennifer Earle from Dublin to advance with a 2 nil win. Annette Newman from Carlow took a 2 nil win over Michelle Morris from Donegal to take her into the quarters. Claire Mill from Dublin had a match on her hands against Carrie Randle from Wicklow with the match level at 1-1 it came down to the colours to see Claire take them for the win. Louise Jordan from Meath was in good form against Joanna Ward from Kildare and won the match 2 nil. Cathy Dunne from Dublin was put to the test against Stephanie Foley from Carlow but would come through with a 2 nil score line to complete the quarter final line up.
Sandra took frame one against Michelle but Michelle levelled the match 1-1, it all came down to the colours with Sandra holding firm to take the match 2-1. Annette was in good form against Valerie and won their match 2 nil to meet Sandra in the semis. Claire stepped up her game against Louise to take the win 2 nil to advance while Megan caused the upset of the day with a confident 2 nil win over Cathy to meet Claire and complete the semi final line up.
In the semis, Annette and Sandra have met on many occasions and there is very little to separate them but Annette would continue her good form and take the win 2 nil to reach her second National 10 Red final in a row. Claire again had to dig deep against Megan who would take the match all the way to the final pink and black where Megan just needed one snooker but it was not to be as she tried to get the snooker but for the pink to drop in for Claire to advance to meet Annette in the final.
Again the final would be a mirror of the 2020 final with Annette going ahead taking the first frame. Frame 2 was close for a while but Annette stepped up a gear to take the frame on the colours and the title of National 10 Red Snooker Champion for the second year in a row.
Congratulations to Annette on retaining her title and well done to Claire on a fine performance throughout. Thanks to all the girls for their support and participation. Thanks to Dave Earle for refereeing the final and as a roving referee throughout the day. Thanks to Bernie, Paul and staff for providing excellent facilities for our events, much appreciated.
