Annette Newman from Carlow continues her winning form from last season by taking the Stars Academy masters National Amateur Billiards Ranking 1 event recently at the RILSA Academy Sharkx Newbridge

In the round robin group stages of the event Annette Newman from Carlow got off to a good start in Group 1 Session 1 with a good win over the ever improving Jackie Trulock from Dublin 70-46

Group 2 match between Stephanie Foley from Carlow and Christine Carr from Kildare was a close encounter for the most part but Stephanie stepped up a gear in the final minutes to take the win on the alarm 49-28, another close encounter was Joanna Ward from Kildare and Veronica Hallahan from Dublin in this group went down to the final minutes on the clock with Joanna taking the win on time called 54-40

Session 2 group 1 saw Jackie get the win over Jennifer Earle from Dublin in a low scoring match on the alarm 34-22

Session 2 group 2 Joanna just pipped Stephanie on the alarm by 3 points to take the win 59-56 and on the other table Christine played solid to take the win against Veronica on the alarm 60-18

The 3rd and final session in group 1 saw Annette play well against Jennifer to take the win on the alarm 62-31 and top her group to advance into the final

Session 3 group 2 saw another very close match between Stephanie and Veronica with Stephanie just winning by 1 point on the alarm 41-40 while Joanna and Christine had a good match with better scoring however Christine took the win on the alarm 76-65

With the scores tallied it would be Annette and Joanna who would contest the final and with Joanna getting off to a good start going 20 points ahead and looking good to take the win but Annette and all her experience would come right back into the match with solid billiards to take the win on the alarm 73-52

Congratulations to Annette on her win and well done to Joanna on her fine performance, thanks to all the ladies for their support and participation.  Thanks to Dave Earle for officiating throughout and refereeing the final.  Thanks as always to Bernie, Paul and staff of Sharkx for all their support
