Annette Newman from Carlow won the 3rd Griffith Pot Black Championship at the RILSA National Cue Sports Academy.
The Griffith Pot Black Championship stems from the Griffith Pin Award for event attendances by players. RILSA players who attend a certain amount of events receive a Pin Award where they now go on to qualify for this event.
The criteria for entry is that the player must display the pin on their waistcoat on the day of the Championship.
The Griffith Pot Black Championship is a one frame knockout event, where the winner takes all. The prize for the winner is free entry to all RILSA Snooker events for 2023.
At the semi final stage of the event we saw Sandra Bryan from Wexford take on Emirjeta Doda from Dublin, while Emirjeta had chances to take the frame but Sandra showed her experience and closed out the frame on the colours to advance to the final for the second year in a row. Annette Newman from Carlow was in good form going into her match against Christine Carr from Kildare and won it comfortably making it through to meet Sandra in the final
In the final Annette stepped up another level scoring very well against Sandra who struggled to get into the match but Annette finished strong to take the win and title of Griffith Pot Black Champion 2022.
Congratulations to Annette on her win and to Sandra on a fine performance, thanks to all the girls for their support as always.
