Margaret O’Driscoll from Kerry won the Maureen Butler Cup Snooker Ranking event at the RILSA Academy Sharkx Newbridge recently.
In the last 16 Annette Newman from Carlow won her match 2 nil against Savannah Keane from Dublin for a place in the Quarters. Lynda Curley from Offaly had a close match against Joanna Ward from Kildare and took the win 2 frames to nil to move into the Quarters. Margaret Browne from Meath got over the line against Delia Keane from Dublin by 2 frames to nil to advance and Claire Mill from Dublin had a good win over Christine Carr from Kildare to see her through to the next round
The bottom half of the draw saw Margaret O’Driscoll from Kerry go through to the next round with a comfortable 2 nil win over Brigid Mulvany from Dublin. Valerie Maloney from Laois had to dig deep against the youngster Qianhui Ye from Wicklow to advance with a 2 nil win. Veronica Hallahan from Dublin got a good win against Tina Keogh from Offaly taking the 3rd frame on the black to advance to the Quarters. Sandra Bryan from Wexford had a good 2 nil win over Jackie Trulock from Dublin to complete the Quarter Final line up
Annette had a 2 nil win over Lynda in the Quarters with the second frame going to a re spot black, Claire played solid snooker against Margaret Browne and with a 21 break in the second frame saw her through to meet Annette in the semis
At the other end of the draw Margaret O’Driscoll was in good form against Valerie and went through winning 2 frames to nil, Sandra had a good 2 nil win over Veronica to meet Margaret in the semis
The semis were hard fought with Annette having chances to close out in the first but Claire potted the pink and black to take it and it was nip and tuck again in the second but Claire had a 20 break to take it and go through to the final. Margaret had to play well against Sandra and took the match 2 frames to nil to set up a meeting with Claire
In the final Claire had a good chance to take it on the black but missed to leave Margaret an easy pot to take the first frame however Claire came back well in the second to level the match, it would go to the colours in the 3rd frame with Margaret picking off up to the blue to take the win
Congratulations to Margaret on her win and well done to Claire on her fine performance. Thanks to all the ladies who participated and supported the event. We see the numbers back to where we were in the mid 1990’s and growing each season on our main tour. Thanks to Stephanie and Martin who officiated throughout the day
