We had a good turnout for the National School Girls Stars Championship at our Academy Sharkx Newbridge recently. Danielle O’Brien retained her title with a great display of snooker throughout the day
In the prelim round Lauren Carr had a good win over Sky Smith and Cailin O’Donovan won her match against Kacie Kehoe to advance to the last 16 stage
Caitlin Williams won her match against Amy Murphy for a place in the quarters, Cailin O’Donovan continued her form against lauren Carr and won her match. Danielle O’Brien was in good form against Chloe Quinn taking the win for a place in the quarters. Megan Nolan had a good win over Ruoqi Chen to advance and Fiona Carr made it through with a win over Eireann Alcantara. Kerry Doran played well against Anna Curley to take the win while Jessica Beatty saw off a challenge from Anastasila Klimashevske to make it to the quarters. Emma Daly won her match against Ava Foley to advance and complete the quarter final line up
In the Quarters Cailin overcame a good challenge from Caitlin to take the win and a place in her first ever semi final, Danielle saw off Megan to take the win and meet Cailin in the semis. At the other end of the draw Kerry took the win over Fiona and Jessica would win her match against Emma to complete the semi final line up
In the Semis Danielle won the frame needed comfortably against Cailin to make it through to the final once more and Jessica was the stronger against Kerry and took the win to meet Danielle in the final
In the Final Danielle kept up the pressure right from the start going 20 points ahead but Jessica responded well to keep in touch however Danielle finished strong to take the win and retain her title.
Congratulations to Danielle on retaining her title and well done to Jessica on a fine performance. A big thank you to all the girls for their participation and support. Thanks to all the teachers and SNA’s who helped throughout the event and thanks to Aidan Murray for refereeing the final and for all his work in the special school area.
