Joanna Ward from Kildare won the 2023 National Griffith Pot Black Snooker Championship at the RILSA Academy Sharkx recently
This event is played each year and the qualification and criteria is simple but the reward is great for the Winner
Only members who have received the Griffith Pin after over participation in 30 plus events qualify to play in this knockout 1 frame competition
The winner receives free entry to all RILSA Snooker events the following year, so a great prize indeed along with a National Title
At the Quarter Final stage Annette Newman from Carlow got a bye to the Semis while Valerie Maloney from Laois took the win on a black ball finish against Jennifer Earle from Dublin in this half of the draw and advance to meet Annette in the semis
The other half of the draw saw another black ball finish between Stephanie Foley from Carlow and Emirjeta Doda from Dublin with Emirjeta having a few chances at the black, however Stephanie took it and the win for a place in the semis. Joanna Ward from Kildare and Christine Carr also from Kildare took their frame to yet another black ball finish with Joanna potting it to meet Stephanie and complete the semi final line up
In the semis Annette finished the stronger against Valerie taking the win on the colours for a place in the final. Joanna overcame a close finish against Stephanie on the pink ball to meet Annette in the final
Again the final was to prove a close affair going all the way to the pink ball with Joanna potting it for the win and title of Griffith Pot Black Champion 2023
Congratulations to Joanna on her win and well done to Annette on a fine performance, thanks to all the girls for their participation and support and to Dave Earle who officiated throughout the day and refereed the final
Thanks as always to Bernie, Paul and staff of Sharkx for all their help and support
