Annette Newman the current National Amateur Women’s Billiards Champion and Aidan Murray the National Amateur Men’s Billiards Champion spar off at the RILSA Academy Sharkx Newbridge in a practice session.

Aidan Murray is a great supporter of the female game since its inception back in 2014 when he held a number of seminars on Billiards and coaching to get the ladies started and ever since, Aidan has been involved in coaching and encouraging our players in the sport.  Aidan completed the World Billiards Coaching Certificate and is the only World Billiard coach in Ireland.

Aidan has dominated the male circuit for many years here in Ireland with many National Titles to his name.  He is well respected on the World Billiards Tour and is currently ranked number 32 which is a great achievement considering over 600 on the list and so many great players on tour.

Annette Newman has dominated the female tour since 2015 with 7 National Amateur Billiard Titles in a Row and took the 100 up title in 2019.  Annette lost this to Joanna Ward in 2020 but regained it in 2021.  Her progress in the sport sees her win 37 out of 39 events to date, some achievement for her along with the wins she remains number 1 in Ireland for the past 6 seasons.  The inaugural Ladies National Billiards League was won by Annette in 2021 and she hopes to retain it this year.

On the World stage, she has been runner up to Anna Lynch from Australia and the 2019 World Champion on two occasions in 2021, at the Irish Open and Irish Masters.  Annette reached the semi finals of the European Open in Leeds this year and in doing so gained World Ranking number 3 which is the highest ever ranking for any Irish female in cue sports.

We would like to thank Aidan for all his support towards female billiards and wish him well for the season ahead.  Likewise we wish Annette all the best for the season
